The College of Languages Holds its First International Scientific Conference
Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Bahaa Ibrahim Ensaf, President of the University of Baghdad, and under the supervision of Dr. Ali Adnan Mashwash, Dean of the College of Languages - President of the Conference, the College of Languages at the University of Baghdad held its first international scientific conference, entitled (Language, Literature, Translation, and Digital Culture: Reality and Ambition), which continued for the days 12-13 June with international attendance and participation. At the forefront of the attendees were His Excellency the Italian Ambassador in Iraq, Mr. Maurizio Cricanti, the President of the Italian University of Naples “L’Orientale”, Roberto Totelli, and the Russian Cultural Attaché. Dr. Firas Al-Muslimaoui, member of the Parliamentary Higher Education Committee.
In addition to the presence of assistant university presidents, deans of colleges, the dean of the Language Institute at Defense University, the general director of the House of Documents and Books, academic figures, researchers, and professors from various universities and educational institutions, in addition to professors of the College of Languages.
Researchers from 15 Arab and foreign countries participated in the conference, with 58 scientific papers and 77 researchers.
The conference included 14 topics in language, literature, translation, and digital culture, in a way that serves the promotion of scientific research, aimed at developing these fields, such as artificial intelligence, digital means, and facilitating means of communication between speakers of the language.
In his speech at the conference, the President of the University of Baghdad stressed the necessity of working with innovative educational methods and developing the scientific capabilities of researchers.
The Dean of the College (Chairman of the Conference), Dr. Ali Adnan Mashwash, said in his speech that opened the conference:
This development achieved by humans throughout the historical stages prior to our day has provided the sciences of language, linguistics, and translation with a reasonable and acceptable share of developments, the most prominent of which was the employment of artificial intelligence in machine translation and the employment of modern electronics to serve the learning and teaching of languages through programs that have overcome many of the difficulties that were encountered. Methods of the educational process facilitate the process of exchanging and receiving experience for the teacher and learner in a way that makes it easier for the recipient to receive the language he is learning and understanding.
It’s worth noting that the conference lasted two days, with 8 sessions, in addition to two dialogue sessions.
